Back from Skyfall
Nov. 17th, 2012 08:45 pm1. Some script writer read that interview were Daniel Craig mused about what Bond would do for crown and country, is all I'm going to say. Husband's analysis was that the entire script was full of jokes mocking the franchise, and moving the homo-eroticism of Bond's interaction with the villain up a notch was just part of that.
2. I went to see Fellowship in the theater, like, 8 or 9 times. Afterwards, I became a little bit of a maniac driver. I think it was some kind of adrenaline thing. Skyfall had the same impact on my driving. I was glad to be able to hop on the toll road, then the Fairfax County Parkway and just windout for a few miles. (42.7 mpg for the trip. Love this car. Though I drool over the Aston Martin that parks in our building lot these days, but that's a whole other thing.)
3. IMAX. It was my first time. *bats lashes* Fantastic for the big vistas. Didn't really notice it for the more run of the mill scenes. Not so sure how I feel about being down amongst the champagne stems for the more intimate scenes.
4. I went to Tysons to see it. Holy CRAP, I forget where I live sometimes. They had people directing traffic in the parking lot. There were people directing traffic INSIDE THE PARKING GARAGE where I eventually parked. There was staff standing by the mall map inside the building just giving people oral directions to wherever they were going. The way we were packed inside that building made my skin crawl. If that place ever caught on fire, or got hit by an earthquake, or God forbid, some terrorists decided to go catch a flick while they were scoping out DC. Yeah. I don't have a lot of phobias, but this went right up there with the way I get a little wiggy when I ride the metro or have to park under a bridge. And I'm assuming this was just a typical Saturday night, not pre-shopping to beat the Christmas rush.
5. Movie was good. It was Bond. I do adore Daniel Craig in the role. The cast was pretty. I thought Dame Judy was awesome. I wish I could remember Husband's list of all the things it is. Opens with Assassin's Creed, can't remember the middle, then Rumpole of the Bailey, then Monarch of the Glen, then Uncharted... It goes on like that. (He has mixed emotions about this film. :D ) I still like Living Daylights the best. But this was a good one.
6. While I was gone, Husband apparently put on his new collection of Bond songs full blast and The Barbarian danced til she could dance no more. I would have liked to see that.
ETA:
7. Saw Iron Man 3 preview. I was still adjusting to the IMAX, so my general impression of it was that it was very large.
8. Hobbit preview, much the same, except I think I'm going to have a nerd's problem with this Hobbit script they way I did not have with the LOTR scripts. The BBC radio play for the Hobbit is just so fantastic lifting dialogue directly from the book...
ETA 2:
9. New Q is very, very Moss. :D Right down to the coffee mug. His face SO should have been on the bottom of that thing.
