Various random life
Apr. 27th, 2012 08:30 pmRecently two different friends of The Barbarian, upon first meeting me, asked her if I was her grandmother. Perhaps the grey hair is showing a bit more than it used to...
We enjoyed the Batman cartoons from the 90s and have been possibly even more pleased with Batman Beyond. Bruce Wayne gets some pretty hilarious lines.
Though AG33 asks, "How do you fit that much titanium [cable] in a batarang?"
I've also been surprisingly pleased with Justified. Did I mention this already? We are watching it as our before-work show right now. The pilot ep was amazing. Filmed in the mountains in Pennsylvania, and it makes you realize how our woods and mountains and countryside in the Appalachians really do not look like anywhere you usually get to see on TV. We are not British Columbia. I think the rest of the show is just filmed in Los Angeles. They do a decent job of hiding that, but nothing like the first ep, alas. I am also embarrassed by how much I like listening to the people talk on that show. I'm sure more than 50% of the accents are totally fake - though they do have a good group of actors who must be native speakers because they always sound like that on all the shows they are on. Also, Olyphant is a really good actor. I didn't watch that much Deadwood, so I wasn't expecting that. Art might be the best character on the show, though. "Is that it? Did you roofie me, Raylan?"
At 1400ish miles on the odometer, the car is averaging 34 miles per gallon for the entire life of the car. Trips top out at 42 mpg when I can get out onto one of the faster roads with less traffic lights during low traffic times - Fairfax County Parkway, Dulles Toll Road. Still have not had it out on the highway for a longer trip. Still looking forward to seeing if it gets 50 mpg on the highway as they were noising around at the dealership.
The Barbarian is now a high yellow belt. AG33 has had another birthday. 14. How did he get to be 14? The Barbarian will be 6 in one month. Does that make anyone here besides me feel old?
The Barbarian wants to know "How *would* you get pregnant with another baby?" I've put her off twice. Now I have a better plan about what to say if she asks again.
Speaking of the car, I'm able to get fuel for $3.99 - cheaper than regular gas, at least for now. Also, like magic, the Sunoco near our house decided to dig up their entire parking lot last week and now they have diesel. Don't know what they are charging for it.
Way back on April 17 I saw Discovery fly over. It was totally chance, too. I was just driving to work late after taking AG33 to the orthodontist and I saw these two planes and I was like - those two planes are way too close together!!! - huh, are they attached to each other? Oh! Right! :D A minute earlier or later, and I would not have seen it. Just zooming over the Toll Road with its fighter escort.
I got The Barbarian the giant 4 pound tub of Jelly Bellies as a very special Easter treat when we were at Costco back at Easter time. OMG SHE WAS READING THE FLAVORS ALL BY HERSELF! *glee* Also for Easter, I made a scary Easter Bunny Head cake, The Barbarian got an adorable dress that she loves in ther basket, and we colored eggs, which were awesome, but I did not take a picture because they were just eggs.
This hits quie close to home, doesn't it? And I printed this out as a glossy color 4x6 and stuck it on my desk. I think it is a good summary of what life is like. Or at least what motherhood is like.
I will close with a quote from Mark, the alien from Yugopotamia in The Fairly OddParents, just because I think the quote is funny: "The grass has been decapitated and the rebellious hedges have been brought into line."
