Tea, meditation and wine
May. 25th, 2011 09:28 amThe Blue Zone midlife crisis continues apace.
I tried my Blue Zone tea yesterday. Right now, until my dandelions come up, my blend is yarrow, stevia, and mint. Yesterday, I boiled the bejeezus out of it in two cups of water for about 5 minutes, then left it to steep/cool for almost two hours. It was quite green, but did not have a particularly strong flavor when I finally drank it. I have no idea if I'm using the right amount of leaves or whatever, but anyway, the experiment has begun. Today's batch is steeping right now.
Also, yesterday I meditated for the first time. Well, I might have tried meditating a few times as a kid, but I don't remember specifically. It actually was a very nice first experience. I did some good yoga before hand, then took out my yoga blanket and my meditation beads and sat in Sukhasana. I used ujjayi and chanted Om on the exhale. I'm guessing it was about 5-6 seconds per bead, for about 10 minutes or so of meditation. Thoughts were quite calm, though of course there were thougths to observe. However, I did find myself drifting off to sleep during the last 15 beads or so. I think that is a typical beginner's problem, staying alert. Not to mention my perpetual sleep deficit.
I have been having my glass of wine in the evenings, too. Borsao has a grenache that I can get pretty easily and cheaply. I really am a lightweight, though. Even when I eat, I am still getting a buzz off the one glass, and sometimes it hits pretty hard. :)
Didn't get to meditate this morning (went back to bed instead), but I may make some space later in the day to do so, and probably it will be more effective in the work day, when I'm actually having some real stress, instead of in the calm morning right after some nice yoga. :)
Also, our local nursery was having a $1 tomato plant sale today only, so I picked up three nice, large plants to go in the three empty pots I have at home. Will need to buy some potting soil this weekend. If I can fight off the squirrels and if we can avoid bloom rot, maybe we will have some fresh veggies later in the summer.
