I wonder

My mother always wishes one "Sweet dreams, and a pleasant waking in the morning." I'm pretty sure that was what Grandma said, too. And of course, I carry on the family tradition.

Anybody else know that one? Any idea if this is some ethnically specific well-wish, or do we think it's just a thing somebody up my maternal branch started?

Considering they're all from the Carolinas a looooong way back, I would assume if it DOES come from somewhere, it would have been English or Scotch Irish.

I was always told "Sweet dreams" but not 2nd part, and now use it with the kids as well. I love the 2nd part of the wish you got.

We got the first part, too, and not the second. (And in the morning we got, "Good morning, sunshine. Time to rise and shine.")

I've never heard "and a pleasant waking in the morning" before, but there's something about it that sounds Irish.
