Our dishwasher apparently died about 8 months ago.

When we first moved in, it seemed OK. A dishwasher.

Then it stopped doing a great job on the dishes. Grungy water in the bottom of the mugs, for instance. Actually, it was probably already doing that when we got here.

Then, it wouldn't clean the tall tumblers, but it would still clean the short ones and the mugs.

Then it stopped cleaning the short tumblers.

Then it stopped cleaning the mugs. Basically, nothing on the top shelf was clean. I started thinking about calling landlord.

I finally DID call landlord when I started having to rewash the silverware and the plates came out gritty - ie, when it was doign nothing but prewashing my stuff for me to wash it myself.

This has been a creeping process, taking over a year for me to break down and call.

I probably would have called sooner, actually, but the ceiling thing. Well. That was a big deal. I don't want to be a whiney tenant, ever, and the ceiling thing, while TOTALLY not our fault, has got to be a big thing for them. AND the stupid thing with the stupid stove. Which technically as my fault, though I call it a design flaw in the device AND a judgment failure on the part of the person who bought the device. But still. Plus, we paid for that. But still.

So I *finally* called about dishwasher and landlord jumped fast and high! Within DAYS we have a new one, installed, running, somewhat quieter than the one before (but considering where it is located, no dishwasher will ever be quiet there) and... AND...

OMG, all the dishes came out clean!!!! Well, actually, I deliberately put in a pot with rice starch on it to see what it could do, and that didn't get completely clean. And there were three weird knives that were kind of dusty, and I'm blaming my weird, eco-detergent for that. But every glass was spotless. Not a disgusting piece of silverware in sight.

Plus, this thing is HUGE inside. It accomodates my plates AND The Barbarian's champagne flutes (ha! speculation encouraged in comments!) in the same load!

The first wash I did on pots and pans. Now testing to see how it performs on Normal.

I can't believe what a relief it was just to put glasses in and take them out and not have to be involved in the washing process, OR stare at them accumulating on the counter.

*sigh*

This isn't so much happiness I'm feeling as it is utter relief to have this chore out of my life again.

so you will be able to rejoin the ranks of those of us who do NOT prewash our dishes for the dishwasher? (and in your case, forego post-washing the dishes from the dishwasher) Yay!!!!!

I've done that. I've postponed and postponed and postponed calling to report a problem. Dishwasher with standing water in the bottom, toilet that runs, oven that doesn't work... ever tried broiled pizza? *g*

I hope your new dishwasher brings you hours of pleasure doing something more pleasurable than handwashing dishes. :-)

*has dishwasher envy* My kitchen is just too tiny to fit one in. I've never actually had a dishwasher, but I'm at the point in my life where I'd like to have one!
