I successfully bought something. Yay.
Aug. 11th, 2009 09:07 amI'm not going to be coy about this. I was inspired by Fiona's little belt purse. I have what I have been told is a very small shoulder bag (but it seems huge to me), but I only take it with me on week days to work and on long car trips. Otherwise I just carry my wallet. The wallet has everything I really *need* in it. The purse has things like my address book (which I really should get completely programmed into my phone so I don't need it) and my portable drive, and other things that are nice/convenient to have when I'm away from home, but which I know I won't need on a quick trip to the store or even on my Saturday morning errands. So for that stuff, I just grab my wallet and head for the car.
But then there's the annoyance of having to *carry* something in my hands. I can thrown it into a shopping cart, but *then* I have to guard the cart. It's all very inconvenient, especially when your 30 pound three year old still wants to be carried around alot and your sometimes absent-minded 11 year old may not always respond to voice commands in traffic and it's nice to have a free hand to grab him by the collar if needed.
But I saw Fiona flouncing off to kill someone with just her jaunty little belt purse and said, HA! THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I NEED! Amazing the corresponding needs of a frazzled working mother and a trained killer!
So I fished around the house and found a freebie fannie pack that we got from The Nature Conservancy years ago. Perfect to hold my wallet. But not very stylish. For one thing, nothing like a fanny pack to make your ass look HUGE. But it was sooooo wonderful to have my hands free, I was very happy with it.
Until the clasp broke.
So then I was on a mission to find a replacement. I wanted to find something kind of stylish, but would have settled for just about any kind of belt or waist pack. ALMOST any. Becuase we found a huge, apron style, animae one in pink and spangles. In fact, teh ONLY thing I could find locally, and I rejected it out of hand. And weirdly, I must have been shopping in the wrong places or wrong season or something because I couldn't find *anything* else.
I was reduced, reluctantly, to shopping on line.
But I found the perfect thing.

I just emptied my old, much too large wallet into it. It is not *perfect,* in the sense that if it were perfect I'd have a few dividers in the four pockets. But I put the lowest priority stuff - gift cards, membership cards to places I go once a year, some photos I carry because I can't make myself leave them at home, my marriage license - in the largest, but hardest to access pocekt. I put my most used credit cards and my driver's license in the easy access middle pocket. I put my cash and change into the change purse with my Costco card (because I have to take it in and out of the stupid thing, like, 10 times every Saturday), and I put receipts into the flap pocket. It's so petite and lovely and cute and sweet and amazingly it holds everything that was in the giant wallet and it doesn't make my butt look huge. And during the week it rides around in my purse like a wallet. It's my new best friend!
