Dreamwidth
May. 1st, 2009 06:48 amHey!
With apologies to those who find the whole new journal service/invite codes/beta thing very junior high.
I have four DreamWidth invite codes. One is promised to someone who may actually choose not to take it. So if you have an interest, I'm screening comments on this post. Chuck me an e-mail and I'll get back to the first three or four reponders with a code.
My thoughts on Dreamwidth, for what it's worth. For a couple of years now I have been very uneasy with LJ's attitude towards adult content. Since most of my fiction writing is explicitly sexual, I've been feeling like a possible target of random journal deletion. I know it's self-centered and paranoid, but that's how I feel. Because of that, knowing that Dreamwidth was designed in part by writers for writers, and knowing who the key players are and knowing they are a lot like me (but with programming skills and for the most part vastly superior writers) makes me very interested in housing my fiction there.
On the other hand, fandom is here. And there is no way I will be completely leaving LJ, at least not until there is the same access to eyeballs in those communities that I get here. So I'll be a split personality for a while.
Finally, regarding RL jounral, that will be staying here until I decide that I love Dreamwidth so much that I'm willing to pay for a RL account over there. For my RL account I must have icons, dammit! Migration of RL account would happen at the earliest in November, when my LJ account expires.
The fact is, I'm in the RL journaling business for the community now, and I've been in this community for going on six years. That's a while and a lot of relationships. What is good for my fiction may not be what's good for my RL. I'll have to wait and see.
