I love cherry blossoms! Seattle has them too, I'll take some pics.

We get a wonderful second round of dogwoods and redbuds after the cherries. Then the crepe myrtles. I do love this area for blooming trees.

And I can't wait til the honeysuckle, but of course, everybody gets that! :)

What I miss is lilacs, which were *everywhere* in Michigan, and I never realized what I was missing til I moved there. They must not grow in the South.

Pretty. Looks like a lot of the streets around here, which would make sense.

Do you have those pear trees that smell like rotting tuna fish?

Yes! Nice LDB, if you don't get too close. Stupid Carolina had a courtyard that was surrounded by them. So pretty. And we gagged for weeks until the flowers were gone.

When the grass gets the early spring rain, it is an unreal green. Summer will fry it brown again soon enough.

It's funny what people get used to. You're from out there, right? When I was in MI, the lack of mountains really impacted my psyche. When I would drive back home, arriving in southern PA and WV I would *feel* my mood lift as I came into the mountains. Same thing with the green after the winter. But I know people who come here from flat places, or less green places and they find all the hills and green suffocating. Brains are weird.

It's so good when spring comes after winter. You can see how religions could get based around it.

WOW! Do they grow edible cherries? Does anyone harvest them?

I'm pretty sure that these (and the famous trees in the capitol), are strictly ornamental.

Jack says: What's the point in growing the damn trees if you can't make pie?!

(Though I can see that with all the white marble monuments in Washington, they wouldn't want pigeons flying around dropping dark red poop.)

:D Well, I believe the original ones in DC were given as gifts by the Japanese government, so either they anticipated the pidgeon problem, or they have to answer the pie question.

You do see lots of beautiful cherry trees in Japanese art, and they are so culturally significant there. But I have never heard of the Japanese recipe for cherry pie...

Hey, you!

Can you see the kid pictures right after this? Not sure if I grouped you with those tight access people!

Also, do you or Mrs. Katiedidnt have a presence on Facebook. My brother made me join, and when I checked for you guys, didn't see you. But I've been posting kid pics htere like crazy, as it is only people I know in RL who have acces.
