From the teaser for next week's Life:
Stark (our hero's old partner): What do you want?
Crews (our hero): A peaceful soul.
Stark: What do you need?
Crews: A bigger gun.
:D
If you haven't seen Life, I recommend it. It's a pretty typical cop show. The main character, Crews, was framed for the murder of another police officer and went to prison for seven years before his conviction was overturned. He also won a wrongful imprisonment suit against it-doesn't-really-matter and got millions of dollars and a reinstatement to his old job.
So he's a millionaire cop. And of course, he's trying to track down the conspiracy that framed him.
So, it's TV land. But well-acted and scripts are mostly pretty good. I like the cast.
The way in which this show actually kind of stands out is that Crews has been changed by his time in prison. He talks about how horrible prison was in a sort of realistic, non-self-pitying way. He's got a real obsession with fresh fruit. He also discovered zen buddhism in prison, and his zen colors his work and the scripts. I know. It sounds very high concept. But I like it.
