Also, oatmeal is not for me. Whenever I eat it, I feel all weird and slightly nauseous afterwards.

What I need is a receipe for a tasty oatmeal breakfast bar type thing. Perhaps will prod internet later.

When you say oatmeal, do you mean porage oats? Because Nigella Lawson has a FAB recipe for them in her Nigella Express cookbook *sees if she has a copy typed up* I do! Here you go! I've made these twice now and they're GORGEOUS! I cut them into small chunks - they're really filling.

Breakfast bars

1 x 397g can condensed milk
250g rolled oats
75g shredded coconut
100g dried cranberries
125g mixed seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, sesame)
125g natural unsalted peanuts

(so far, I've just used 250g of mixed nuts, or 125g mixed seeds and 125g mixed nuts, but the above is what the book says, so.)

Preheat oven to 130C, gas mark half, grease 23x33x4 baking tin

Warm condensed milk in a large pan.

Meanwhile, mix together all other ingredients and then add the warmed condensed milk, using a wooden spatula or spoon to fold them in

Put the mixture into the tin and spread it out

Bake for around an hour. Cool, then after 15 minutes, cut it up.

And it's ridiculously easy too - weigh stuff, mix with hot milk and bung in the oven, can't get much simpler than that (except, of course, when I forgot how long they'd been in there for...)

Let me know if you like them :-)

OMG YUM!

I made these this morning using flax seeds, pecans and dates. Plus, I topped them with 1.5 c semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted and smeared over them with another 1/3 c coconut sprinkled on top.

Veeeeery yummy.

Though am annoyed. I need to go home and do the measurements again in cups so I can calculate the nutrients.

Thanks!

Weirdness. Oatmeal is totally saving my fat ass lately. I've been eating a packet of Trader Joe's Oatmeal and Flax Seed every morning about 10am. With no added sugar or milk. Just straight. After a while.... it's addictive. o.O

What about another hot cereal? Cream of Wheat? Malt O Meal? Sumpin that might appeal to your tummy more?
