My beautiful quilt!

My mother is a quilter. Well, mostly not these days, but she used to be.

I have a beautiful yellow Prarie Queen quilt. And her Around the World that won Viewer's Choice at the Quilter's Guild show that year.

When I was about to graduate from college she started a quilt that was supposed to be my graduation gift. But she only got the top pieced. Then it was going to be a wedding present. And so on. For years.

She finally finished it for me and gave it to me this Christmas! She said I would laugh when I saw it, and I said I had hoped it would be my present every Christmas for years now! :D

The pattern is Katheryn's Star.

Oh, that's pretty. My mom makes quilts too. She's been making me a family tree wall hanging for the past 10 years. One of these days, she swears, it'll be finished. :)

err, it's pretty?

cubey things, and stars, and the colours are dark blue, yellow, white and a blue with small white flowers.

we don't have a tradition of quilting, so I'm not sure how to describe the pattern, if that makes sense. any website recs, perhaps? the anorak in me is stirring slightly ;)

My grandmother made them. My mother tried to get into them, but she ran out of time.

That's gorgeous! I love the colours and my mind is boggling at how long it took to complete, but I've always thought that making a quilt must be a time consuming undertaking.

Weeelllll... They do take a while, but usually on the order of a few months, if you are determined to finish, not several years! :D Mom usually uses a machine to do the piecing of the top, which on a complex quilt like this can take a few weekends of determined work. Maybe a month for that on my mom's usual schedule? Maybe a tad less? Then she used to hand quilt everything. The quilting could take a good while. She used to have a big frame set up in the living room and would quilt while watching TV. The cats used to sleep on the quilt on the frame like it was a hammock. The hand quilting of a large quilt could take another couple of months. So 6-8 months for a project like this? Not 13 years! :D
