Nightwish is a good choice. Or..... hmm. Hold on. Gothica. My Chemical Romance if you want mainstream. But for what YOU are writing, I think Nightwish is a great choice. Also, Evanansence. Edenbridge. Epica. Heh. The E's are in abundance.
I figure *everybody* knows the Cure. Will listen to Nightwish. He can be descriptive of the music from his POV, perhaps learn from Miranda that it is Nightwish later.
Try Nine Inch Nails. 'The Downward Spiral' was 1994 and 'Closer' gets played quite often, but there have been another couple of albums since then, one of them...um, 2006? So he might be like 'oh, familiar' without quite pegging why. Marilyn Manson turns up occasionally too, and he's had his music on a car advert and in the Matrix so he might do.

RE: videos. Again, another me thing. I almost never click them. This is more a situation of it never being the right time to have the sound on and watch the screen and pay attention. Gah, my friend Jules wants to strangle me. She sends me clips. Sends them to ME. Directly. And it just infuriates her that I don't watch them. I try to explain that I just never have the right time for that, but people don't understand. The thing about this project is that I just wanted an impression of the music, which is something that I *can* do at the office. Click the thing, let it play in the background. If I need specifics, I can go look up the lyrics. But most of the time, people want you to, you know, WATCH the video... Anyway...
