Writing challenge
Mar. 26th, 2004 09:23 amSo, have been challenged to do a character for Uisgich's new community
hashbury. [Which I just attempted to join, FYI, and which is still not accepting members. Humph]
At first, I told her she was insane. But then I realized it was for a community she was starting. Then I thought I should join in a gesture of sisterly support and unity.
Then, on my commute this morning, had massive creative breakthrough. [Was *trying* to listen to Heaton Chapel, but by the time Autumn Child finished, I would have forgotten I was listening. I think I played the track three times and still didn't hear it.]
Anyway. Gonna steal my name from a real life friend and be Novie. Of the mysterious, yet to be revealed background - no last name, unplacable accent.
Novie will have gotten seed money for her bakery from her Uncle Frank, a wildly successful interior designer beloved by the wealthy and trendy in the San Francisco community. Success of bakery cum cafe provides funds for founding a cooperative grocery adjacent. Novie will also be the house mother to a cooperative house of students, who help out in her bakery and are members of the grocery.
Am thinking of having Novie's architect brother be in town, too.
So, Novie will have a lovely environment to play in and can welcome other characters.
Bakery can be lovely terracotta floors, perfect white walls, pickled wood trim, lots leather couches and chairs and beanbag chairs etc. (with non-leather options for the rabid vegetarians). And tables for writers and chess players. Can be a real cafe with soups and beverages and whatever Novie feels like fixing that day. Was already thinking about gumbo.
So, chica, whatdoya think?
