Well, CS arrived yesterday. Made a very good first day impression. Seems imminently trainable. However, can't type worth a damn. I have already threatened to purchase typing software and make him do drills. (Well, to be fair, for a hunt-and-peck typist, he's pretty fast. And I was hovering. Nothing like some weirdo watching your every move to interfere with your performance.)
Not as tall as I remembered, but definitely a big guy. I was complaining about process servers and mentioned my plan to use him as my bodyguard for serving my own process. He laughed. Very personable. Strikes me that as a friend he would be a delight to tease (and just so nobody gets the wrong idea, not in a sexual way. Not a slut. Happily married woman.) He's kind of bashful and seems to have an excellent sense of humor. But probably shouldn't torment an employee.
He's from rural Virginia and, family memembers will laugh, has noticed the sweetened tea line... :)
Because I was working with CS most of the day, didn't get to monitor my internet life all day, as I usually do. Not like anything really *happens* in my interent life. But I was practically twitching by the time I could check my mail and friends list and spy on my IM buddies. Did have some idle chatter with Uisgich around mid-day to help ease the jitters...
The end of the day was dominated by client mini-crisis. The new fax machine is going back. Every two-three pages it has a line error and stops faxing. Not a useful machine when you are trying to send a 63 page fax... I'll find another one. Thinking of using e-bay, actually. But back to the mini-crisis, did manage to have one of my office-frustration temper-tantrums. Much cursing and hissing and stomping and phone slamming. Bad CK.
Anyway, looks like we'll have CS in the office on Fridays, with half-days on Saturday. Yay!
Fixed one of the office networking problems by shutting down an overly-ambitious firewall. Stupid Zone Alarm. But still can't get to the notebook from my computer. Hope to talk to my tech guy today.
Oh, and in case anyone was following the saga of the Caravaggio pic, I took it down from the desktop, but left it in the screensaver accidentally. It will probably come out of the screensaver, too. I'm just a big coward. I tried to lock my personal folder, which has a couple of iffy icons, but couldn't figure out how. So may have to clear a couple of items out and send them home via e-mail.
But it was a really, really good thing that I took it off the desktop. Usually, I have the calendar and my e-mail up all the time, and rarely ever dig all the way down to the blank desktop, which almost never gets seen. So in my normal usage, the pic is really insignificant. I drool on it while the computer shuts down, basically. But in the process of training, we were always getting back to the desktop for shortcuts and navigation issues, etc. Would have been absolutely mortifying!
On a different but related topic, every thought you've ever had has already been thought by someone else.
karelian *has* a Caravaggio .gif. Grrr. Still gonna do my own, but still grrrr.
UPDATE: No. Changed my mind. Not doing my own. Have decided that I like the still better than I would ever like the .gif. Though would drop everything to do it for
uisgich, should she raise the issue.

Date: 2004-03-24 07:46 am (UTC)Won't be around much today - mini phone crisis! Nothing to worry about, and several trips to the phone box half a mile away are totally beneficial to my health!
Oooh, Carravaggio gif! Could I say "yes please!", but there's no hurry?
Bats eyelashes!
I'll Aim you later when I've sorted this out :)

Date: 2004-03-24 08:33 am (UTC)Every time I open up Outlook, AIM clicks on, and won't let me stop it until it's opened up. And our satellite internet connection occasionally drops for a couple of seconds, and when the connection is restored, AIM automatically opens up, so I spend part of the day closing the damn thing down!!
Just been checking post today, as am doing a proposal for another database, but a nice small one, so I don't mind too much. Been totally busy with the admin stuff too, everything coming to a head to finish one business and launch the other next week. Gonna need a holiday!
And I owe CJ a nice long tag to finish off R/B thread, but can't get into the right headspace for it today. Wah!!
Phones on now intermittently, and at least we don't rely on phone lines for the internet and email any more, so we have a sort of communication with the outside world!! Should be back to normal tomorrow.

Date: 2004-03-24 09:17 am (UTC)However, if you ever needed to, I completely understand. Don't hesistate. Also, will accept a "buzz off, I'm busy" type message, as well.
You sound like you are having a thrilling day! I'll see you when I see you. (But will be missing you the whole time!)
And what, you can't write schmoop!porn while putting together a database proposal and setting up a new corporation? Jeez!
LOVE!
