Often he will have a notation, "Called opposing counsel. Left message. (x2)" Meaning that he called twice.
I just entered one, where the notation was "Called opposing counsel. (x109)."

In this particular case, he COULD have called this lawyer 109 times that day. But I assume that must be her extension.
