Another blockage
Oct. 30th, 2006 02:27 pmOn Friday I developed another blockage in the right breast. Not the near complete blockage of last time, where the whole breast became engorged and there was basically no milk flow. This time it was just the right side of the breast, but it was awful, backing up into the breast tissue high on my chest and also under the arm.
I woke up miserable in the night and Husband heard me moving around upstairs (he was doing his stay-up-too-late-on-Friday thing). He volunteered to sit on the bed by the baby while I went and had a hot shower.
According to the literature I've read, sometimes the duct is blocked by a little blister actually visible on the nipple. Sure enough, in the shower, I could see the tiniest white bump.
The procedure for this is to sanitize a needle and pop the blister. When I told Husband this was what I was going to do, he was clearly disturbed. He did offer to try to help, but that sounded like a hideous idea to me.
Actually, it turned out to be very easy and nearly completely painless.
Then, of course, Little Sister was dead to the world. I could not get her to wake up at all.
So it was me and the breastpump. Three ounces in three minutes just from the one breast. What a relief.
In other TMI news, you will all be pleased to know I am *not* pregnant. Stupid hormones. I have had two light periods since the pregnany, and was expecting my third to start almost exactly a week ago. Um... We have been using birth control, plus my fertility should be way down with the nursing, and blockages aside there's been no decrease in milk flow or any wow-I-feel-pregnant symptoms. Just I didn't get my period. I figured it was hormones, but I still had an unexpired pregnancy test (two came in the kit from last time), so I decided since I was a week late it was at least prudent to test, just so that we didn't get taken completely by surprise. One line. Not pregnant.
And to finish off the exciting TMI news, this morning, I dropped a box of 254 size 3 diapers on my foot. The pointy corner of the box, of course. Ow. Owowow. Ow.
Good morning!
