Last night, poor Little Sister seemed desperate to go to sleep, but she couldn't settle. She seemed like she wanted to suck something, but not the bottle. I gave her my finger and she would drop off for a few minutes, but wouldn't settle long enough to let me do the last few things I needed to do before going to bed, including one last session of milk production, so there would be a bottle waiting for her and I would be more comfortable.
Finally, I said, why don't we go upstairs, lie down together, and let her try to nurse herself to sleep. I figured, if she nursed long enough, I might be OK, and there was a bottle still from earlier in the day, so it wouldn't be a disaster to miss a milking session (the breast pump makes me feel very, very cow-like).
Anyway, she really nursed! It was wonderful! She had a good drink and went right to sleep. She even nursed on the hated right breast, which she has essentially rejected until last night. (I had surgery on this breast and the nipple is slightly inverted.) We were both so happy! Then she woke up in the night and after a little squawking, she had another good drink and went immediately back to sleep. She ate her breakfast the same way. THREE feedings, and I never even had to sit up! THIS is why I said I wouldn't be sleep deprived.
It is SUCH a relief. I'm going to clean up all the pump parts and put it away til time for day care.
