So, Richard is being insulted over and over again by Colonel Lord Farthingdale. Blah, blah, blah, raised from the ranks, blah, blah, manners you're not born too, etc., etc. The usual stuff.

After Richard is dismissed and leaves, Comandante Moreno turns to the Colonel and says, "If you were a man, I would call you out, and kill you."

Later, French spy Ducos tells Richard, "Tell Comandante Moreno that she will die the death of all whores, if she ever falls into French hands."

Whereupon Richard replies, "When my wife finds you behind our lines, you will die like a dog!"

*swoon*

They are always saying such romantic things about each other! How can anyone not agree that they are the best TV couple ever, in the history of TV!

Stupid Cornwell, kills her off...

And what about that, anyway. The stupid scriptwriters f*** up enough of Cornwell's good plots. But they actually *fixed* Theresa's character! Their one redeeming act! Why couldn't they just keep her? We could have skipped the whole, whiney, Jane c*** and Richard could have become Spainsh landed gentry, and lived happily ever after with his wife and daughter.

Oi! Cinzia! Uisgich! A little action, ladies! Harper can always visit in this career as a horse trader!

*Goes off to bed thinking adoring Richard/Theresa thoughts*

Theresa had to die so that Sharpe would eventually settle down. Sharpe and Theresa could never had settled. They might think they could or even wanted to, but their relationship was bound in the tempestuousness of battle and war.

Once she has been lost then he can learn to grow. That's why he falls for Jane, she represents a civilized home life. Unfortunately she is a poor choice, she is too young to know a good thing when it kisses her. :)

It all sets it up for Lucille, grown, mature, and perfect. :)

All, IMO.

Don't get me wrong, Theresa rocked. I was numb when she died.

That is a serious, thoughtful analysis. And all my crit professors would be quick to say that the reader's interpretation of a work is at least as important as the author's intention. And interesting, too, to think about the progression of Richard's character through his relationships with women. [Though where does the Marquesa come in? And Josefina? (Sorry, end of a long day and feeling intellectually lazy... *snortle*)]

But I think your interpretation is more generous than the story deserves (acknowledging that I have not read all the books). Not to be crude, but I think the script writers and Mr. Cornwell all wanted Sharpe to get more action than he could get as a faithful husband.

My interpretation is maybe generous. I hadn't even really thought of it as an analysis. I do agree with you as well. I think his progression of women is an opportunity to write different sorts of romantic angles for the sake of an exciting plot. Though I don't think it's totally random, I think each compliments his progression as a character too. Love, Love lost, lust, flirtation, anger directed into passion, life frustration fucks, deception, longing for a life he doesn't have, etc. I think Cornwell used it as a way to show the plethora of kinds of love and because it makes a good story. Besides the hero has to get the girl... any girl... all the girls... :)

I like it. Works for me. Though I still *prefer* my version... *snortle*

I loved Teresa too, and miss her in the books and movies.

So, are you asking for HET?? Is there no limit to your thirst for depravity??

Given recent developments, if you're asking, I'll deliver (am also in very creative mood!), but you have to ask nicely :)

Not exactly

No. I'm actually asking for you to do the impossible and fix all the problems with the Sharpe movies, and rectify some of the lesser problems with the books.

So time to wave your wand... *snortle*

Well gee you don't ask for much do you? ;) haha Not touching that one with a ten foot pole. :P

My hubby was mad too when Teresa was killed off and I said something like But then he couldn't shag his way across Spain if she lived, coz if she found out he cheated (move Teresa that is) he would be singing high notes...they had to kill her for plot. Not saying it's fair though. :(
