Sep. 17th, 2005 07:37 pmGive me candy corn, I eat for a day. Teach me to grow candy corn, I fall into a diabetic coma.
I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating.
So. My best friend, the Frugal Gourmet, has what is certain to be an excellent recipe for falafel. However, he comments in his notes that his Saudi friends often make falafel from a mix.
I am thinking of getting both a mix and the ingredients for the Frugal Gourmet's recipe and try them both.
Gonna use The Black Dog's recipe for hummus, then water it down with maybe sesame oil and tahini to try to achieve the hummus sauce type stuff that they make at Jerusalem Garden.
Of course, if Jerusalem Garden would just please relocate to, say, Reston Town Center, or maybe Lake Anne, that would be fab! Save me a bunch of work...
By the way, The Frugal Gourmet is my best friend. Three of his cookbooks are must have. The Frugal Gourmet Cooks Three Ancient Cuisines, The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American, and The Frugal Gourment Cooks Our Immigrant Ancestors (actually, I think it's "On Our Immigrant Ancestors" but I like the cannibal sounding name better). In fact, once, I was reading Immigrant Ancestors while Small Boy was playing in the bath and it managed to fall into the toilet. I was so heartbroken that Husband had to get me a new copy the next time he was out book shopping.
Anyway, he's great for cooking "foreign" foods. The recipes always work and always taste great. So I am optimistic that his falafel will be yummy. Just looks like lots of work.
