We shopped at Wegman's this weekend. I go there mainly for the frozen seafood and the produce.

So I'm in the produce department, getting squash and snow peas, and my eye is caught by a price sign. Then I do a double take.

$299.99 per pound.

Seriously.

It was Black Truffles. Sitting there in short grain basmati rice under glass with a lock.

Whoa.

How many pounds did you buy?

Cause..... MUSHROOMS! You know you want em. You could always sell your car, I suppose?

I wonder how much you use for a sauce? An ounce? That's only $18.75...

Yow. That's a lot to pay for something that smells like dirt.

I do think that truffles, as opposed to mushrooms, are a different quality of dirt entirely. I mean, they named the best chocolate after them. No matter how much people love mushrooms, they haven't named any chocolate after mushrooms. But truffles... I figure, there might be something going on there. Also, truffle tasting menus. Another thing that makes me think there might be a pretty big difference.

Still, not spending $299.99 a pound on anything just for funzies...

Wonder what you have to pay a pig in France? :)
