The website
Jan. 16th, 2004 07:28 amI have been carrying around a bag of stuff related to the update of the office website for months, in the hope that I would actually get down to business one morning while working at home.
Real work always seems to get in the way.
But recently decided that I was tired of hauling all the junk around, and plus The Boss thinks "sprucing up" the website could increase business up to 20%. So I decided to take that as inspiration.
Unfortunately, when I sat down to work on the site again, discovered that FrontPage is refusing to work on the computer now. It claims that I need to install 32 bit TCP/IP networking. OOOOKKKKKK. If that is the case, why did FrontPage work on this computer a couple of months ago, the last time I was working on the webpage? Acutally, the answer probably has something to do with The Husband's security modifications to the computer.
So yesterday, I resolved to ignore my real work and just spend quality time on the needed updates and modifications.
Spent the day fluffing the website's pillows, washing the laundry and essentially girlifying it! (Boss' comment after my previous v. small-scale modifications, "It's much more feminine!") *snortle* Also, made huge additions to the Resources page, as my filing gnomes have gotten massive amounts of scanning done in the last month and it seemed a shame not to have the new content up.
More sprucing yet to do. Probably another day's worth. Ready now to work on the meta tags and get some software in to vet the pages adn resume updating the search engines - probably WebPosition Gold. Also, requested the traffic report on our site from our ISP. Hoping to have it in my in-box when I get to the office today. They said "24 hours."
Meanwhile, am frightened of what I will find on my desk today that I just flagrantly ignored yesterday. I *did* pay the taxes yesterday, so at least there should be no criminal repercussions of ignoring my in-box. The Boss should give me back the client bills today, so will bring them home this weekend and watch the cast commentary on TTT or something while stuffing envelopes.
Well, off to start the day. (Sorry, kitty!)

Now this is more my kind of explanation of website re-design!
And great way to get work done - watching TTT. Did the same myself, sorted out last month's receipts while watching the PJ, FB and FW commentary.
Computer-chat-induced somnolence
Date: 2004-01-16 06:48 am (UTC)Yup. I know what you mean. My parents are both programmers, and when I was a kid, they used to talk over dinner over various problems they were having, and ab ends, and blah, blah, blah. My brother and I would eat and listen. I recall it being very peaceful and soothing, but not particularly interesting...

Staple gun
Date: 2004-01-16 07:49 am (UTC)did I tell you about the staple gun incident
No. Please post a rating for violence on your reply. *snortle*
This Post Carries a Stupidity Warning!!
Date: 2004-01-16 12:21 pm (UTC)(We had just had our sofa and chairs re-upholstered, and had been sitting on the bed settee and two deck-chairs for nearly three months, and were both sick of the sight of it, so asked them if they wanted it, and they said yes.)
Back to story ... M went into the kitchen to start cooking, and we were admiring the great job Hilary had done of recovering it. She said it had given her a chance to buy a staple gun, to which SM said "Cool!" and she gave it to him to look at.
Now, when I told Izzy about this later, we both agreed that no rational person would give a guy a staple gun and not expect him to fire at least one staple off.
Which is exactly what SM did. Towards a scrap peice of card that was lying on said settee. And I swear that that is where it ended up, as it came out with so little force it virtually dropped out.
But H put her hand up to her ear as if it had almost embedded itself in her skull, and yelled at SM for being such a stupid idiot, and what damage he could have caused! She stormed off into the kitchen and he stormed off into the lounge cause she had shouted at him! When H emerged, I joined M in the kitchen and we chatted on as if nothing had happened, and left them to it.
We had something to eat, with neither of them talking to each other, then we went home. Luckily, by the time M & H came over at Christmas, they were speaking again, and we did indeed have a good time.
I think they both have some very similar character traits, which neither of them would ever admit to, which didn't help.
So, that was the Great Staple Gun Incident. No violence, no excitement, just a bit of stupidity!!

Date: 2004-01-16 12:54 pm (UTC)The Cellmate is looking at me behind her boss' back...
How incredibly childish, on the part of both parties! Glad they got over it.
Deserved the stupidity warning.
The Husband called from the theater. He's going to the 4pm showing of ROTK. I owe The Boss a little time, so staying late at work.
Feeling any better?

Date: 2004-01-21 03:15 am (UTC)Don't be alarmed! *snortle* What with the 5-year-old and all, we often go to movies separately. But we went on December 17 together - took the day off work! :) And pretty good chance we will *all* go again before it goes off the big screen.
