Date: 2004-01-15 03:27 am (UTC)The result was that all the text was strike marquee! Plus, the normal LJ format of my journal went away and the text was white on a black background.
The moral of the story - don't just plunk random html code into your entries...
Found a really good html tag dictionary here and a good but incomplete one here.
If I were really naughty, I'd charge the boss, as today I plan to do a massive update of our business website. But probably my recreational coding will benefit more from doing my work than vice versa. I'm gonna try to figure out how to embed or link to .doc and .pdf files, as in particular I would like to link a couple of stupid .pdf scans to my journal.
Hope you are well. Best to P and the SM. And of course, the kitties.

Date: 2004-01-15 04:27 am (UTC)Very purrty! I downloaded some cool Tolkien inspired fonts a couple of months ago, and used one of them on a trial website I was fiddling around with (as in one page), but when I brought it up on SM's machine, it just came up as arial. Also, SM shuddered when he looked at how I'd built it, and told me he would show me how to do it properly later! That was me well and truly told off!

As a proper Southern belle, I could never make a crude comment, encouraging you to use sexual politics to make him regret his rude and disrespectful remark...
I think the fonts only work if the other person's computer recognizes them. I imagine it's safe to use any font listed in your Word or WordPerfect list, as probably anybody surfing is going to have those fonts on their computer because of their wordprocessor.
Flummoxed this morning because my computer suddenly won't run FrontPage. Was planning on doing the website updates from home, but now will have to do at work.
Off to wake The Small Boy and get him ready for school.
Kisses!

Date: 2004-01-15 09:02 am (UTC)Oooh, does that mean you've got a Scarlett O'Hara dress tucked away in your closet? Always wanted one for myself when I was younger!!!
I did use my womanly charms on him the other day (it's okay, no details to follow!!), and he's going to show me how to make icons out of screecaps in photoshop at the weekend! I've got a couple of obscure SB movies that I thought I'd have a go with!
Re: Font-induced bliss
Date: 2004-01-15 09:26 am (UTC)Nah, no dress (unless you count my wedding dress.) I'm a terrible Southern belle. Though I have read Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior from cover to cover! :)

Date: 2004-01-17 06:41 pm (UTC)SM showed me the basics, so I'm sort of messing around with that inbetween waiting for Live Journal TO LET ME BACK IN!!!!!!!!
Re: Icons
Date: 2004-01-18 06:24 am (UTC)Looking forward to the results of your labors. :)
Re: Icons
Date: 2004-01-19 01:18 am (UTC)And due to my unexpected other life in Rivendell yesterday, alternated with hideous housework that I had been putting off for days, haven't had a chance to put the screencaps into Photoshop yet, and have to work today, otherwise might get sacked - what a shame!!
Re: Icons
Date: 2004-01-19 04:09 am (UTC)I got the impression you worked for the SM? Not that you can avoid work, as clients would whine, I'm sure.
Does he know about LJ?
No. But you have certainly come up in conversation, as has Cinzia. Enough times that The Husband asked where I'd met you and exclaimed that he wasn't sure that he was comfortable with me talking to strangers on the Internet. I said that I had talked to you on bulletin boards, which is technically true, as our LJs are set up as bulletin boards, and that I was being very careful not to give out identifying information. To which he exclaimed, "Your e-mail address is your name!" But I reminded him that I wasn't using my AOL address. He wrinkled his nose at the Look_Sharpe reading group, becaues he cares far too much what I am reading (he nearly has an anurism every time I pick up a new Laurel K.).
Now, I suppose that said, I have put out plenty of information for somebody who was really determined to figure out who I am and where I live, etc. But they'd certainly have to put time and energy into it, and I can hardly imagine anyone would.
