Well, I can't let a day go by without asking why they are such jerkwads.

One thing I have hated about Word upgrades is that every time I have to change 50 defaults to make the software work right.

One default was the "Select Whole Word" default. It makes it so when you are using your mouse to highlight text, it will not select partial words. I always go to the editing menu or whatever it was and turn that "feature" off.

Wellll...

Word 2007 has the same "feature." And in supreme irritation, I could NOT find a menu that would let me turn it off. I had to move on with my day, so I gritted my teeth and began editing and discovered that yes, it highlights the whole word right away, but if you pull the mouse back, it will draw the highlight back to where ever you place the mouse.

*sigh*

Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I do not understand the mentality that would think of all the time you save by selecting whole word, without considering all the irritation of adjusting the selection after the computer does whatever the fuck it wants, rather than what you told it to do in the first place.

That's the problem with Word. It's damned uppity.

On the upside, it has yet to automatically create any lists on me. But I haven't really given it any chances to do that yet. Trying not to borrow trouble...

Ha! Just found the menu for all the stupid defaults!!! Whoo hoo!

UPDATE: I just made my 50 changes to the defaults, including getting rid of select whole word! And in a FIRST for my usage of Word 2007, their rearranging actually helped me. I was able to make a few *additional* changes to the defaults that I was never able to make before which I hope will actually make for an overall improvement of my Word experience when I finally work out all the kinks.

See. I try to be fair.

To make the changes, go to the Menu Formerly Known as File and at the bottom of the screen, in the right hand corner of the pop up (not in the actual list of operations), you will see a button called "Word Options." Click that and explore every menu and every advanced button. That's where you can fix all the stuff, including automatic lists, automatic application of styles, automatic spelling correction, select whole word, etc, etc.

*sighs in happiness*

I have decided to give up on figuring out auto text and make friends with macros. Because Auto Text was basically a quick access to a certain type of macro, anyway. A shame they either got rid of it or moved it to an impossible to find location, but I'm a big girl and will work around. *glares*
