I got myself a Western Digital 160 GB Passport External Hard Drive.
I have named her Physeter Macrocephalus, because she can eat my old friend, the 20MB Archos MP3 Jukebox, aka Architeuthis Dux, for lunch. :)
Poor Architeuthis. I inherited him from my brother, who apparently never liked him. He was awesome! He carried around masses of music and I had him playing every day at the office for years. But his power supply got destroyed, then, when I tried to play him on USB, he started to get really hot and start freezing up. So I knew his time was coming.
I started shopping external hard drives because you get more storage space on them for a lot cheapter than you can get a media player type device of the same size. Physty will hold, like 45,000 pictures! Right now, she's loaded up with all my pictures, all the music I have ever ripped, all my word docs, including all my fiction and all the recipes on my computer, plus some miscellaneous stuff like the scans of my camp diary and the little movies I have made of the kids and stuff and junk. And 147 GB ARE STILL AVAILABLE!!!!
*pets Physty*
Physeter is 3x5 and in her little padded case she weighs about 4 ounces.
Today was her first day at the office. What I immediately realized was that she did not contain all the forbidden music!
So tonight, I hooked up Architeuthis. It was a sad, sad event. He would run for minutes, or even seconds at a time. I was able to get all the unique files transferred. The little bit of music on there could have been ripped again with only minor inconvenience, but the camp journal was living there and had been deleted everywhere else, so that would have been a big loss, since I would have had to scan the entire notebook again if I wanted it back.
Now I have put Architeuthis away. I am strangely reluctant to get rid of him.
For all you Costo members out there, Physeter Macrocephalus, with carrying case, is available in store for $109. Awesome deal! Though be forewarned that in the Costco packaging it comes with a USB cable about 8 inches long. *scowls* It is possible that if you bought it in the other packaging it would come with the 22" cable described in the quick start guide. *flips off the quick start guide*
If I could only make friends with Physty's synchronization software, I think I'd be set to go!
