Forgot the damned lunch box. However, did not run over the guy on the bike. And don't know whether to be pleased or annoyed that the guys in the truck honked at me insanely. What is it about the Agent Smith glasses. Guys seem to think they are particularly hot, particularly when I am in a foul mood and scowling at the universe. When they honked at me, I was waiting to make a left turn out of our apartment complex driveway, having dropped Small Boy off at the day care and gone back to retrieve his lunch. Was highly pissed.
Called www.newport-news.com to yell at them as soon as I got to the office. First they charged me for shipping on a no-shipping deal. Then they charged me freakin' $7 for PARCEL POST, which takes 15 business days to be delivered. Then the item WAS NEVER DELIVERED. And they had the nerve, in refunding my purchase, to KEEP the delivery fee. PLUS they only refunded $14 of the $16 clothing order.
My advice, don't order from them, no matter how pretty their clothes are. Though in fairness, they have indeed promised to refund my money.
AND IT'S FUCKING FREEZING IN HERE!!!!
And that said, I'm off to do some work. Anybody thinking of calling me today to fuck with me, better think again.
All my love,
CK

Maybe if she didn't look so smug saying it
Aug. 4th, 2005 10:19 amI am sitting at my desk. Winter weight slacks. Socks. Close-toed shoes. Fleece. I did have a blazer on, but had to switch it for the fleece, because I was too cold. My fingers are still cold and my nose is cool and damp.
They guy who looked at the ac in my space yesterday really tried. Then he told me it was the nature of the beast and nothing could be done.
But I am SO COLD!
So, I went downstairs to complain in person to building management.
And some woman, I believe the actual building manager (I usually deal with theri receptionist type), said, with a smirk, Oh! Well! They say it's 75 degrees up there! That's normal!
Now. That may be. But don't say it with that smug little smile on your face. I just looked at her blankly and I reached out and gently touched her hand with my deathly cold fingers.
Whereupon she said, "I know you're cold!"
You know, it's one thing to accept reality. Maybe I work in a stupid building with poor environmental controls. But don't grin and laugh and tell me it's normal and good while I'm standing there with snot running out of my nose.

And what a mood booster it was!
Aug. 4th, 2005 09:45 pmSo, this afternoon, I was exhausted from my anger and general miserableness this morning. I commented to the two random people - you know who you are - that I was hoping that this evening's activites would be a mood booster.
You will recall that The Small Boy is in a wedding this weekend.
We went to pick up his tux tonight.
Holy moly frijoles.
Cute. Adorable. Dare I say handsome, with a devilish charm? :) He emerged from the dressing room and all the women in the formal wear store melted.
They should hire him to put on a different tux every day and dance around the store.
It's a pretty normal black suit, with a red vest and tie. His only complaint was that the shoes are uncomfortable. He says he wishes he could go to school dressed in the tux and sneakers every day.
I hope to have pictures to post by tomorrow evening. Maybe I can figure out a way to do a new Small Boy icon that won't freak out his Dad.
Oh! And you will be amused to know that when I said the flowergirls were going to be looking "cute," he said, "And pretty!" And he anticipates that they both will have done their hair really nicely for the event.

Rice Casserole, with Chicken
Aug. 4th, 2005 10:49 pmPrep time is very quick, about 10 minutes, maybe less. Bakes about an hour. If you like this dish, just keep one can of each soup handy, jotting the soups down on your shopping list for the next trip to the store after you make a batch. The soups can of course sit around for months until you are ready to make it again. But that way, you are never dissapointed by being out of ingredients the night the mood strikes you.
