muck_a_luckI know a wonderful woman. Who is completely convinced that astrology is real. She is an serious amature astrologer. She makes judgments about people based on their charts.
So her daughter is dating a married guy who claims to be separating from his wife. She is very distraught, partially because her daughter, per her astrological forecast, is entering a "very fertile time in her life."
She is convinced that her daughter is at serious risk of getting pregnant with this married guy.
Fine. Believe what you want. But here is the interesting part. She actually TOLD her daughter to be really careful with this guy because of her predictions.
Her daughter is about 21 or 22, I think. I wonder what it would have been like to get advice like that from my mother at that age. I wonder if her daughter buys into it, or if her daughter thinks she's a flake. I wonder if being told that her chart says she is at risk to get pregnant will make her more cautious, or make her discount her mother's advice, because it sounds crazy.

Date: 2004-09-14 07:25 pm (UTC)I have a gorgeous set of tarot cards with representations of Pomo art on them. I use them sometimes when I'm in a funk or can't struggle through a problem. It's not that I think they're going to mystically show me the answers, show me the future.
But they do give me some new perspectives and new thoughts, sometimes, except when Im striving for a certain answer. then they tell me to go get buggered!
