Just calling Billing Matters technical support.
Very nice, but exasperating, tech support guy trying to help me.
He seems to be telling me that in order to generate bills for a client, I have to go to each individual electronic case file and generate a bill for that file. Which is ridiculous. They can't possibly expect me to sift through who knows how many cases each month checking each case individually to see if it needs a bill generated. There is an automated way to do it. Or else what would be the point of having the software. I could type the bills on a typewriter just as quickly.
The guy seems confused about what I'm trying to do. He says, are you trying to print a list of the bills for this month? Of course not. I'm trying to print THE BILLS! We sort that out, and he puts me on hold to go ask somebody.
While I am on hold, I start describing to the lawyer standing near my desk the problem I am having. I say something like, of course I don't want to print a LIST. I want to print the DAMN BILLS. Well, the guy comes back on the line and says, that's what I'm trying to find out, and by the way, I can hear everything you are saying!
NO FAIR! I was on hold! I laugh and apologize without taking back anything I said. Then I shut the hell up.
Anyway, when he REALLY comes back to the phone, I tell him that it is so not fair to put me on mute instead of hold, as he is supposed to put me on hold so that I can say mean things about him behind his back without him hearing. He laughed. A really nice guy and I feel bad. Would not have said mean things to his face! Still not taking any of it back.
Anyway, the moral of this story is, they are really not ready to support the billing function of this software. I was basically told by the guy and also the sales guy I spoke to later, that I needed to figure the problem out for myself. Which is lame.
