Inspired by the v. evil Cinzia's screencaps (and the fact that I wanted to be sure the DVD actually works [and who are we kidding? Did I really need any special inspiration?!]), I watched Rifles again last night.
It was interesting to watch this again after having read the books. The fistfight that Cinzia used for her little porn adventure is just about the most real looking on-screen fight I've ever seen (except that one in that Hugh Grant movie that I can't remember the name of where the two guys go at it about like KTC and I might have in college - lots of enthusiasm, not a clue what to do... [Don't tell KTC I said that!]). I was amused to see that Sharpe's uniform has a hole in the sleeve in its very first scene. Am relieved that for aesthetic purposes Sharpe never got his French cavalry officer's overalls. I've always thought that the man really must have been a sight in a green jacket and red-striped pants! Though weren't the boots thigh-high? Hmmmmm. There's an image.
Again, was struck by Theresa as an on-screen heroine. I like movie-Theresa better than book-Theresa. She gets a lot of lines from one of the book's male characters, and is stronger, less petulant.
But, again laughing about how EVEN THERESA can't seem to keep her clothes on around Sharpe! *snortle*
I do miss Hogan in the later episodes.
Poor Sharpe. Plagued by Irishmen on all sides. :)
Well, nearly time to wake The Small Boy and get ready for school. And have a scone. Plotting a Three Kings' Day outing to the movies with The Husband and The Small Boy, but not sure we will be able to pull it off...

Date: 2004-01-06 09:03 pm (UTC)Was just watching Eagle.
And, um, I kinda see your point, re the H/W OTP.
Though really not down my alley, I'm afraid. Should remain strictly PG, or I'm bailing.
Seriously.
*snortle*
Really, really, really, really going to bed now.

Today's Distraction
Date: 2004-01-08 08:28 am (UTC)This is taken from my ROTK Weapons and Warfare book which came today.
Paraphrased, of course!
Boromir’s leggings were of a soft, dark velvet, *mmm soft* almost black in colour which tied at the waist by means of a drawstring *ooo, what happens when you pull on the string?* Tall leather boots were worn over these. *Gnuhhh – tall… leather … boots…* He also wore a red silk robe *ahhh silky* … split to the groin *g…g…g…groin?* … to allow it to be easily removed. *falls to the floor in a hormonal heap!!!*
Re: Today's Distraction
Date: 2004-01-08 08:44 am (UTC)That said, excellent distraction!
I have never been shy about declaring Boromir the best-dressed member of the fellowhip.
There was a fab picture of him waiting for Gandalf to open Moria. I don't think I have it any more. Maybe on Quintessential LOTR? Will look later.
Best-dressed
