Ciggarettes and Carrot Juice
Jun. 6th, 2004 10:17 amGot my Camper van Beethoven, the Santa Cruz Years Thursday afternoon. Been listening in the car.
Very fun, though not for any but the hard core Camper fan, I think, with the possible exception of about half a dozen songs (off 4 albums). It's amazing how much more, ahem, mainstream (it is to laugh), they became on Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart and Key Lime Pie. And let's not even talk about Cracker. A real pop band compared to early Camper.
I had forgotten the amount of drug influence in their lyrics writing. Have decided Small Boy can't listen to Peace and Love til he's older - lyrics describe disturbing acid trip. Very pandemoniumesque and I'm sure he'd love it, but too much adult content and disturbing imagery.
He really likes Eye of Fatima, Part 1. Which I knew was a drug song, but forgot how out in the open about the drugs it is. Just hadn't listened in a while, that's all. Brain not functioning. Cause, you know, they lyric "15 kilos of cocaine tied up in a sack" doesn't leave that much to the imagination. *snortle* And yes, I know, that is not in the Santa Cruz Years set. But pulled out Sweetheart for old-times sake...
Makes me want to go out and buy all the Cracker CDs now...
