Helmet or sniper? *ponders*

Xur, the Agent of the Nine, brings his amazing presents to the tower for the next 24 hours. I have enough of his money to buy one big item.
Do I want an exotic helmet or an amazing sniper rifle?
The helmet would allow me to upgrade to the highest armor rating, which might mean that I could more quickly earn the currency I need to buy the sniper when it is next available. But the sniper if available today, and I might not see it again for weeks.
Added complication. I really adore my exotic gauntlets. I cannot wear them with the helmet. As soon as I can get a raid helmet that takes me to the highest armor grade, I will be ditching the exotic one. Of course, raiding (and helmet acquisition) will be easier with the full armor strength acquired from the exotic.

+ helmet armor upgrade may help get raid armor
+ armor upgrade MAY help get rifle later
- does not go with gauntlets
- will get ditched when raid armor won
- may cause missing out on rifle for weeks
Question: Will the sniper rifle Help with better raiding/ higher earning? If yes, I would go with the sniper rifle and try to earn currency for the raid armor. If no, I would use the helmet as a stepping stone to getting the raid armor and the rifle.
