We have had a bunch of drains suddenly get slow in the house - bathroom sinks. Slow drains are the renter's problem, so I wanted to find out if I could fix them before we started discussing getting a professional in. I checked out Plumbing for Dummies from the library. I found out something new - that little pipe that sticks out of the roof that I have never been able to figure out - not the dryer vent, not the oven vent, not an attic vent - it's the vent for the plumbing in your house! Weird. Also, I was reminded that the ubends under the sink keep smells out.

Also, I made my own meditation beads. I will not go so far as to call them mala beads. They are odd sizes, and there's no tassel, blah blah. But htere are 108 wooden beads to assist me in my meditation.

Several got slow at the same time?

Yes, but all got much better when I cleared the drain stoppers, which were disgusting. I don't know why it all happened coincidentally sort of together - probably that was just a matter of perception. The kids' bathroom may always have been slow, and I just didn't notice. That one didn't really improve that much when I cleaned the stopper, which wasn't actually that bad, compared to the others. The plunger didn't help that sink that much either. I got a long, flexible poker deal that I am considering as my next step for that sink before I resort to actually trying to take the trap apart and clean it. I'm not sure it matters to me that much. It's draining better. Maybe I don't care.

cool on the not!mala beads! what are they from and how did you make them?

Just went to Michael's and bought a wooden bead variety pack. Mostly, I wanted the 108 beads, and when I looked up "How to make mala beads" on the internet, it said to use wood or stone, so I made a point of getting wood. I strung them on some brown silk cord, with two large beads done together instead of a large bead and a tassel. They aren't hideously ugly, though I wish I had measured out more cord to a prettier finish. There are three colors of wood bead - a blond, a reddish wood, and a greenish/brown wood, and about a fourth of them are sort of squared off.

I'm dumb. Will take a picture and post tomorrow. :)
