Crying babies
Aug. 3rd, 2009 09:21 amLast night, I instigated a primetime viewing of Chamber of Secrets. I thought we would watch about half an hour and call it a night, but we were watching it with the RiffTrax, which means that stopping and restarting it would be a pain, and Husband just decided to watch it straight through.
"We" includes The Barbarian, who saw Sorcerer's Stone on Saturday afternoon and *adored* it.
We've toughtend the poor little chiquita up too much. Nothing in Sorcerer's Stone phased her a bit, though she did wander off during the Dark Forest scene for a snack and potty break, so missed possibly the scariest part.
So she's perched on a big pile of sofa cushions next to her Daddy, enjoying the show, then suddenly, out of nowhwere, she brusts into screaming crying.
Her poor little face! OMG! It was terrible!
She was reaching for me, and the tears were pouring down, and she couldn't say anything. I swooped over and picked her up and carried her out of the room. It was so sad, because she was clearly terrified and still unable to say what was wrong and she was reaching out to the room behind us, clearly now frightened that she was going to be banished from seeing the rest of the movie.
I'm still not sure we got a straight answer on what scared her. She started screaming when the spider leaped out of Hagrid's box and ran away, but at that point Harry starts yelling for Hagrid and he gets sucked back out of the book, which is glowing very brightly. Maybe Harry yelling scared her? Maybe seeing the book seeming to explode or catch on fire scared her? She *said* it was seeing the spider that scared her, except she was not scared of the spider later and kept refusing to let me cover her eyes. She wasn't scared of the basilisk, either. She's very wise in the way of movie monsters. I think it is possible it was the combination of the scary skittering thing and Harry screaming.

Date: 2009-08-03 03:56 pm (UTC)I was a complete scaredy-cat at her age. I remember being horribly traumatized by the giant squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. /o\

Date: 2009-08-03 06:27 pm (UTC)I'm appalled, naturally. "Weren't you scared of the spiders?"
"Aunt Wobyn, I not scared of ANYTHING!" she tells me sternly, hands on hips.
I still haven't seen those parts. *shudder just thinking about it*
