I don't really care about Sarah Palin now that she's Alaska's problem again. I just thought the post was hilarious. Plus the people who comment there are always v. funny. :D
I could care less about Sarah Palin, stabbed outside a bar or not (it's apparently a prank) but I wonder how many people would have jumped on this particular prank-wagon (yes, I know that's not a word) if the name had been changed to Barak Obama? George Bush? Joe Flanigan? Richard Dean Anderson?
The answer to whether I would find this prank amusing if it were about someone else - possibly. To me, I snickered when I briefly (for seconds) fell for it, then realized it was a prank. I found it funny more because of how easy it is to be suckered in cyberspace than because of the target of the joke. The topic is particularly sensitive for me because I am surrounded by people who forward bogus rumor emails all the time and I am constantly directing them to Snopes.
Clearly, her little joke did not strike your funny-bone the same way it struck mine.
The astral projection thing was funny, but probably you are too easily offended to spend much time in her journal. The astral projection comment was not offensive, but the people who comment there often have strong opinions worded strongly in a venue where eveyone agrees and reinforces each other's tasteless jokes. Not a great place for you to scan, probably.
I meant no offense to you nor too anyone else who considered the prank humorous. Normally, I have a pretty healthy sense of humor. And you're right about how easily it is to pull a prank like that on-line. I shouldn't have commented at all as I didn't mean to offend. I'm in a bad place right now in RL and only looked at the entry because it shocked me.
Thank you for handling our disagrement in an adult manner. I respect you even more than I did before.
Considering my recent griping just a couple of posts ago about that bumper sticker and how offensive I found it, I spent some time yesterday thinking about how one person's funny is another person's offensive statement. One thing about humor - off color jokes just left hanging alone - either in the ether or on someone's car - well, I think they have the ability to be ten times as offensive to those who are offended. In RL, if you say something and someone is obviously appalled, or put off, you can apologize instantly with a charmingly sheepish smile or a knowingly rakish chuckle, and all is well. In cyberspace, the same accidental offense can only be resolved this way.
In traffic, the only resolution is to RAM THEM WITH YOUR CAR!
