I think I mentioned that I am now getting job related google alerts to point Boss in the direction of interesting online commenting opportunities.
I'm getting google alerts like "Virginia and Child Support" and "divorce and DC."
First, I have to say... The people on the internet who post on the topic of family law, divorce, child support, spousal abuse and marriage (of all types) are overwhelmingly angry men and right wing religious conservatives. I would say 95% of the places I visit are men talking about how mean everybody is to men, who are just as beaten up and spousally abused by mean bad women who only get restraining orders in order to steal the kids and house... or super-Christians talking about things like how marriage was clearly created anthropologically in order to protect children and gay marriage denies children a father and a mother.
The other 5%: that grandparents vistation website, people rehashing the McCain divorce, and an awesome site for helping straight spouses in marriages where their marriage partner has revealed that he or she is gay or lesiban.
*rolls eyes*
The internet. Home of wackos. *waves to friends page*
BUT! That rant was not the reason I clicked POST today!
This idiot will not be put in the sex offender registry in Michigan.
On the one hand, I think, just because a guy's a pervert, do we really need as a society to brand him with that label for life? The people on sex offender registries never finish paying for their crimes. Ever. And a lot of their crimes are horrible, and we as a society fear repeat offenses, but MURDERERS don't get the treatment these people do.
This guy. I probably would prefer he not be my child's band teacher. But still. It was a SHEEP.
*shakes head*
I should have known from my own journaling experience, but the blogsphere on political and social issues is a toxic place. Lots of self-interest, bitterness, hate and anger out there. Prejudice and fear and downright paranoia about the legal system. It's demoralizing, reviewing these places for somewhere that Boss could participate in a useful discussion. I've been sending him links to well-thought out and presented items, though when you read the responses to them, I doubt in the end he would bother to get involved. The comments are a big circle-jerk of people who are not discussing anything, they're just stroking each other's egos, supporting each other's most irrational positions, and calling the hate a good thing. But we've all seen that before, too, in our experiences here, so it's not really news.
Just depressing when you go play in the other kids' pool. Much more fun in your own back yard.
UPDATE: OH! Sorry! 1% each for Palin's Troopergate and that stupid quote about how the Wall Stree trophy wives will be divorcing their husbands (belittling the family carnage likely to be created by the actual 10k to 20k layoffs expected from the recent financial industry meltdown. I know they are rich fat cats. Clearly they deserve horrible family breakups. *glares* People disgust me.)
ADDITIONAL UPDATE: Revise my figures as we go. Don't forget the3% of articles about coaches getting divorced from their teams. Dude.
