The Boss is OOT today. So, going to work in jeans and hiking boots. That's the best day!

Last night, went through all the benefits stuff with The Husband while making dinner. It is just incredible to have health benefits again. And it's a really, really good plan. I will be nagging every day, now, for him to go to an allergist and start getting shots. And will be investigating their eye plan and possibly doing the vanity thing and going back to contacts, after all these years. Alas, no free laser surgery. At least, I don't think so. *snortle* Actually, gonna look that one up.

Have been getting old loose ends off my desk at an alarming rate. I'm not sure there's anything more than 2 weeks old in my inbox anymore. And that may include my bookkeeping/billing inbox, too. It's a very freeing feeling. But that means...

I am dangerously close to current at work. Can't have that. So today, with the Boss away, will work on billing and bookkeeping til lunch and spend the afternoon playing on the website. I have been looking for the opportunity for days to break in WebPosition. Also, have a new case to add, per The Boss's instructions and probably some content to update. Tomorrow morning to be dedicated to the new bankruptcy client's data entry and the afternoon to the two beastly will projects that I have been avoiding like the plague - 2 children and 3 stepchildren - can't be a good thing. Hopefully, when Boss back in the office on Friday, I can have the bankruptcy, the two estate planning projects, the new garnishment paperwork, and a couple of other items waiting for him, as well as an exciting website update. PLUS, Vonage ought to finish transitioning our numbers any day, so possibly can tackle the rest of that project, too.

On the hiring front, we made an offer to the last guy we interviewed. I cannot refer to him as a pet. He is much too large. Also, regularly referring to an employee by some sort of amusing nickname - The Bodyguard? The Filing Uruk? - is probably inviting a lawsuit. (Former assistant, referred to as The Filing Gnome, was my sister-in-law, so I felt I could get away with it.) So will instead refer to him by his initials, CS. He seemed receptive to the offer, but there were issues he needed to work out, coordinating us with another part-time job. So in wait-and-see mode. My second choice, AI - Oh, dear! I have two computer candidates, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence! Flashback! Help, Sufei! Anyway, as I was saying, my second choice would still be really good, just in different ways. CS is a law student with practical experience that makes us fairly confident that he could come into the office and, with only a little training, as a second "me." Well, nobody could be as good as ME, of course, *snortle*, but he looked good enough that we actually offered him a bit more cash than we were planning to pay. AI, on the other hand, would need a lot more training on the legal stuff, but she looks like a hot property on the basic clerical stuff, which is what we were really planning to hire for. And she comes at a lot lower rate per hour. So if CS can't fit us in, am looking forward to making AI the offer. Sort of a win/win for me, I suppose.

The story on AI is kinda weird. She called and asked to talk to our head paralegal. That would be me. *snortle* She wanted to schedule an interview. I thought she was interested in our job and started talking about how we hadn't hired anyone yet and asked how she had heard about us, and started requesting her resume and cover letter, etc. She seemed taken aback and we managed to work out that *she* wanted to interview *me.* Confusion! She is a legal studies student at U of Maryland and needed to interview a paralegal for a class project. Heh. Don't know what her teacher is going to make of me. She was supposed to find out what education was required for the position and what my duties were. Also, what I thought the most important skills were for being a paralegal. Did I do a lot of Lexis/Nexis research? Stuff like that. It was fun. We couldn't get a conference room, so we did it right at my desk, much to the delight of the Cellmate, who also put in her two cents worth on several points.

The Cellmate has been so sweetly enthusiatic about The Husband's conversion. She teared up when I told her. And she has begun planning for my pregnancy. *snortle* It is really nice to feel, at least temporarily, like our problems are solved and we can actually move forward for a change, rather than just treading water. I remember how good it felt last year when we got to the treading water stage after nearly drowning...
