Real Life update
Nov. 3rd, 2004 09:29 amIt's been a few days since I did a real post.
Saturday morning, I got up with the cat at 6am to do the power yoga, and then was going to crawl back into bed until The Small Boy woke up. Walked into the bedroom and heard a lovely water sound, like a tinkling stream. Damned if the toliet tank was not flooding. Not the bowl, mind you, the tank. The bathroom floor was a lake, but with early morning practicality, I saw that it was contained, flushed the toilet to empty the tank, shut the water off at the wall, and went back to bed.
The ants renewed their assault on Friday, so Saturday, I ripped the kitchen apart. I washed walls, bleached counters, emptied cabinets, washed every canister on the counter. Cleaned the toaster. Scrubbed the floor. It was gorgeous in there. And I still had the bathroom to deal with. I went in there, cleaned the floor and while I was at it, took a futile run at the shower floor. At the end of the day, I was so dead. I flopped exhausted into the allergy chair and fell asleep for an hour. When I woke up, I officially had a cold.
Small Boy was great all day. He played creatively with me on the edges of his game. Sunday, he was quite irritated when I didn't want to play. I got up, did I can't remember what, then went back to bed. I perked up in the mid-day. But Monday was still puny, AND had Small Boy at the office because of teacher workdays. The earliest the plumber could come to do the toilet was Tuesday around noon. So I took Tuesday off to have Small Boy at home for the second teacher workday and meet the plumber and keep my germs to myself. I got about 6 hours of work done, so it wasn't a total wash.
This morning, am back on the diet and exercise horse. Did step and a little yoga, had yogurt and grapenuts for breakfast. I refuse to eat any more Halloween candy. Want to be strong til the next holiday.
Now, staring at a huge, frightening pile of backed up work on my desk - old stuff that hasn't gone out due to discovery project (remember that?), and client billing. Today is all about getting stuff out to clients.
Feeling mostly healthy and energetic, but still have achy throat and now have headache. But Small Boy went to school with his homework done, and
dork_elf posted fab chapter of Veiling - so my life is a balance at the moment.
Will work to make it a really good day.
PS - I see that we have Bush via popular vote this time. Well, my feeling is, people deserve the President they voted for. Husband too old to be drafted. Small Boy too young. Senate won't let him put insane people on the Supreme Court. And while sharing
daisy_gamgee's concerns about civil rights for the gay community, it seems to me that our culture has come too far forward toward acceptance for this to be anything more than a delay in the inevitable. Still, it is depressing to think that we will present the same face of incompetance, ignorance, and flat-out stupidity to the rest of the world for another four years. We had a real option this time, people. What, exactly, do you see in this idiot?
