I love the writing on this show.
The kids love Pepper and her amazing hyper-ness. She is awesome, and she gets a particularly great moment in the Crimson Dynamo ep. Rhodey is being all reasonable, telling Tony that he needs to leave this villian to the police and the military. Pepper jumps in and tells Tony that he is a SUERHERO and he should definitely fight this person. Rhodey says, "You can't tell him that! This isn't a joke!" And she replies, "Do you think this is a joke for the police?" Keep in mind that Pepper's father is FBI and has recently been badly injured and may still be in the hospital (not clear, but would make sense). But THEN, Tony appears to get blown up. Of course, he escapes, but it looks bad for a sec and Pepper takes a moment to recover. It was a remarkably good pause for a cartoon. You can see the gears turning - I encouraged him to do this, and now he's dead.
My favorite two things about the show thus far, though are 1) the way that Tony is so incredibly easy-going. He accepts problems, deals with them and the consequences, and moves on with a reasonable amount of aplomb. And he's willing to do what it takes. There's a great scene where he pretends to break down crying to get out of trouble. What super hero have you ever seen do THAT? It was hilarious. Which is actually relaed to 2) I love Tony and Rhodey together. They squabble and bitch at each other and Tony deals out crap and Rhodey just throws it right back at him, but they are so obviously friends. The writing catches them the way real friends act, and actually, I think that is almost unique in my experience of television shows. Not contrived friend moments, but funny, normal friend moments, like you have with your own friends. Pepper is great and funny, but her hyper-activity is over the top. Rhodey is a guy you know. Tony is a guy you probably wish you knew.
OK. I think I'm done fangirling now. Though we haven't seen much of Gene Khan and the Mandarin yet, so I may be back. :)
