The Barbarian is very fond of grape tomatoes. She eats them like candy when she is in the mood.
Tonight on NPR there was a story about the salmonella outbreak - the vector is large tomatoes. I had the AC on and the radio kind of turned up, so she started burbling in the backseat and I missed most of it, but I was sure she was saying "matoes." I usually go into total mommy-mode when she starts talking and turn off the radio to hear what she is saying, but I wanted to hear about the tomatoes, so I listened to the whole thing.
After it was over, I turned off the radio and said, "AG33, was she talking about tomatoes?"
"I think so!"
"Well, that piece probably sounded really funny to her. Blah, blah, tomatoes, blah tomatoes, blah blah."
"Do you think that's all she can understand?"
"Well, she probably doesn't know the words 'salmonella' and 'bacteria,' but they were saying tomato alot! And 'wash.' And 'dirt!' Blah, blah wash tomatoes, blah, blah dirt!"
"Blah, blah cook!"
As AG33 and I were saying "Blah, blah tomatoes blah blah blah," we were giggling and laughing and then The Barbarian gets in on the act - "Blablabla matoes!"
She thought we were hilarious. We spent the rest of the trip home yelling "Blah, blah TOMATOES blah WASH blah DIRT blah blah TOMATOES!"
*sigh*
I love them. :D
