Stupidity

Oh! Was just reading a McShep story, and as per the usual McKay was railing about rampant stupidity, which reminded me...

This week, more than once, I have been struck by how difficult life must be when you are really, truly stupid.

I don't mean that in a mean way. I mean that in a truly sympathetic way. Poor stupid people. The sadness in their lives. The time wasted. *is sad*

For instance, in my building, the mailboxes front a hallway, but there is a little room behind them, where the postman goes to put the mail in. From the back.

Some really sad, stupid person had put a sticky note on the front of their mailbox, requesting that the postman leave them change of address cards.

I wonder how long that person will wait, feeling all sad and forgotten, before just going to the post office.

All because they are too stupid to realize that if the post man is going to see their note, they have to put it *inside* their mailbox. Way in the back. Near the edge.

*is sad*

And today, there was a woman in front of me at Safeway. Now. Our Safeways are very technologically advanced. They have a 19" monitor over the cash register that puts up the scanned items in huge font so that you, the purchaser, can see what is scanned and how much it costs and what your special discount is. The poor, stupid woman in front of me. She got very sad about her chocolate. Did it ring up? What price was it? Did her club card scan? (This required a higher level of intelligence. You have to see teh word CLUB by the effected purchase. The word CLUB only appeared, like, three times on the screen.) She finally scurried back to the aisle where she got the chocolate (I use the term scurried loosely, as it took her quite a while to get back. To her place at the front of the express lane.) so that she could do a price check and tell the cashier how much it was supposed to be. What a trauma! And all that running back and forth and the *humiliation* of all the annoyed people in line behind her. Even the nearly retarded 62 year-old bag "boy" was rolling his eyes. You know you're stupid when that happens. Seriously. I felt bad for her. It was right there on the screen. I tried to point it out to her, but she didn't understand that I was talking to her.

It's really hard, being stupid. Really, really hard. *is sad again*
