We get spam faxes.
There are laws that are supposed to prevent overly intrusive spam faxing. If you notifiy a spammer that you don't want their faxes, they are supposed to not fax again, or there are monetary penalties.
All of these people include "fax removal numbers" so you can call and request taht your number be removed.
And these numbers work on 85% of the faxes.
Then there are the 15% of fly by night organiziations who are pulling some kind of scam anyway, so what do they care if they also send faxes in violation of the laws. One in particular I spent a full business day trying to track down. Their operator would not give me their corporate name or address and they started hanging up on me when I called to ask.
But today, I got one that took the cake. From Nancy Shaw, PhD, a realtor. The last line of her fax said if I wanted to, I could fax back the fax she sent me, with a note asking that my number be removed, and specifying that I needed to send the fax AFTER FIVE!
Dude. It's Lent, or I'd have something very rude to say about that.
