Goodnight Kiss

Small Boy is getting ready for bed.

He used to go through a whole routine of things I needed to do before leaving. Rub his back, rub his feet, pet his hair, swing him around and drop him on his bed. All very ritualistic. Whole thing usually taking about five minutes, though sometimes it could drag out, often taking longer the more ready for sleep he was, ironically.

But these days, he almost always "gives up his stuff" to have extra reading time.

Well, last night, he was all read to and tucked in, covers up to his chin, and I gave him a goodnight kiss.

Mommy [Coos] [Kisses]: There's your goodnight kiss!
Small Boy [Happy sleepy smile]
Mommy [Coos] [Kisses other cheek]: And there's the other cheek!
Small Boy [Happy smile, some giggles]
Mommy [Coos] [Kisses in rapid succession]: And there's your head! And there's your haircut!
Small Boy [Giggles]
Mommy [Coos] [Kisses]: And there's your nose! And there's your ear!
Small Boy [Giggles] [Blocks ear kiss with hand on Mommy's chin]
Mommy [Laughing]: OK, have a good sleep!
Small Boy: Mommy, can I give up my stuff?
Mommy [Slightly irritated]: For what?
Mommy [Laughing]: For more kisses?!
Mommy [Pounces on helpless child in bed]
Small Boy [Look is a cross between laughter and horror]: No! For more reading!

And this might be proof that Small Boy is getting too old for Mommy kisses. There was a time not too long ago that I could have kissed him all over his face and he would have begged for more.

*sigh*

Argh!

We now have TWO lawyers in this office, both men, who wear cologne so strong it makes me sneeze.

Good grief, people! Get a clue!
