Food and Wounded Pride
Nov. 27th, 2003 07:46 amI'm the only one up yet. The bird is in the oven. Muffins are baked. Pies are planned. Dishes are (mostly) washed.
I have been thinking, too, in the kitchen, as I am wont to do, and I have been thinking in the kitchen since 6am.
I have been invited to Thanksgiving at the Cousins' and essentially told not to bring anything!
So not fair!
I bake lovely bread!

See! Or I could make Mom's potato rolls?!
Also, chocolate cake (see below) and all the traditional pies! Plus, I make other fab deserts! Dobos Traingle? Black Forest Cake? Lemon Chiffon Pie? Stickies?!
But, nooooo. I have been consigned for years to bringing the green bean casserole. Not that I mind. I love green bean casserole, and when The Small Boy was The Even Smaller Boy, it was nice not to have to worry about cooking. But this year I was informed, in so many words, that the green bean casserole was not required.
Hmmph. snortle
Ah. But you point out that I put a bird in the oven this morning?
That's because the poor spouse is stuck at home working. So am making him his own bird, potatoes, gravy, etc.
Will be making pie later because pumpkin pie is one of the few "vegetables" The Small Boy will eat. My recipe is only lightly sweetened, and I use the non-fat milk, so aside from the crust, which can't be helped, pumpkin pie is not such a bad excuse for a vegetable. I'm planning to make four, because once I get started, it's as easy to make four as two.
Meanwhile, the muffins are my revenge food offering. Pumpking Chocolate Chip. My favorite! Seem in the spirit of the season. So there, Cousins! I cooked anyway! You can't stop me!
They will probably make weird stuffing, as usual! I make lovely stuffing
wanders off muttering
