The paranoid freak in me comes out
Jun. 6th, 2004 12:40 amSo. I have recently had several sorta "black helicopter" moments.
1. They have been monitoring the traffic on the toll road for their own, nefarious, traffic management purposes. *snortle* But it kinda freaks me out when the people with the laptops are sitting there *monitoring* me. (I should note, here, that I have not yet gotten a SmartTag. Don't like the idea of everybody knowing what my car is up to! *snortle* Do you *know* how long it took me to get a SmartPass for the Metro? Actually, I have resisted the SmartTag longer...)
2. Have been kinda weirded out by the wireless computer network at the office. Our computer guy, Bill, said "Well, it's all just ones and zeros." But somehow I don't find that reassuring. All that data flying through the air must be effecting reality somehow...
3. Two days last week there was a cop using our apartment complex's sign as cover to point his radar gun at the road. Which would have made perfect sense if he were trying to catch speeders. But he was on foot. I thought maybe he was working with a partner further down the road, except that as far as I could see, he wasn't using his radio. The second day there was another cop there, but couldn't figure out what he was doing.
4. Last night, cops had pulled over a large van. When I drove back past that spot about 10 minutes later, the cops had made all the passengers get out. Several guys. I thought, ok, either some sort of safety thing with the van, because the passengers were all just standing around while the cops were looking at the vehicle (nobody seemed to be in custody or anything). But then, less than a mile away, I saw that three police cars had pulled over one kinda old, big car. I would have thought that was a drug thing, for sure. But it kinda weirded me out, having just passed the weird, pulled over van.
5. This is not to mention the police-dogs-in-action we witnessed in Culpeper when we went to Granddad's memorial service.
