Just so you know...
If I am in a right on red situation.
And you honk at me.
I won't go. Just out of spite. I will park at that light til it turns green.
That's my policy, and I'm sticking by it.
And in case you were wondering, one of the single most rude things ever happened to me while I was driving today.
I was at a light. The protected left turn signals were on. The left turners were turning. Lots of them. I was turning right, but did not have any sort of protected light or anything. I was waiting til it was safe and polite to go. The guy immediately behind me honked for me to go, as people are wont to do. Then he did it again. Then he honked again, and gestured that I should turn. When I ignored him, he honked several more times.
In accordance with the policy above, I didn't go.
I am a one woman campaign for good behavior in traffic. :)

Date: 2005-07-11 10:30 pm (UTC)I'm the same in that I will not cross a pedestrian crossing until the little green man says it is safe to do so. Even if there are no cars around.
Honking cars annoy me. As do cyclists who ride on the pavement.
Oh dear, I'm in rant mode now

Date: 2005-07-11 10:44 pm (UTC)I have one of those quirks, myself. We have this ramp going from one expressway to another that I take every single day on the way home. The right lane runs out. The left does not. It's a very busy stretch, and is most always fairly backed up. Every day, people will fly up that right lane as far as they can and then try to force their way back into the left lane. If I can manage it without wrecking, I will. not. let those people in front of me. I will ride the bumper of the car in front of me before I let some jackass in a rusty pick up truck that just swerved out of the left lane and floored it so he could gain three car lengths cut in front of me. God, so much road rage.
I suppose I'm one of those badly behaved drivers. :) But I've never honked at anyone!
Probably TMI... :)
Date: 2005-07-12 12:16 am (UTC)And he was *actually* in a shiny new giganto pickup, that wishes it could be both a pick-up and an SUV. Also, he was, like a 48-something white guy.
Weird reverse racism, or something... I am much more tolerant of honking by people of apparent Asian descent - particularly people who look Indian or Pakistani. Yes, very not PC and bad and I know, but still, I expect them to honk. They honk, and I shrug. I expect a middle-aged white guy in an expensive car to uphold middle-class white American values. Which, of course, he doesn't, because he is a jackass. But it pisses me off *all the more.* Punishment for my own racism, I guess. *shrugs*

Truck drivers
Date: 2005-07-12 08:09 pm (UTC)But... Don't get all over forty-something white male drivers on spec. We're not all rude SOB's. Just because I drive Behemoth the Pickup, drive over curbs, cut lights to a razor's edge (it helps to know -exactly- when they're going to change), speed and commit a thousand other traffic violations a day doesn't mean that I don't do so courteously, politely and safely.
*Honks just to be perverse*
Re: Truck drivers
Date: 2005-08-16 04:11 am (UTC)I would *never* take you on spec! :)
And also, only start lumping people in groups once they include themselves in the group. Person innocently - or - well - not bothering me :) driving their truck doesn't get put in a group. And I *adore* people who move their butts in traffic. I drive like I'm from Northern Virginia. Don't get me wrong. I just do it politely. Just like you do. :)
