Sunday afternoon with The Small Boy
Feb. 1st, 2004 05:46 pmThe Small Boy and I had the best afternoon shopping!
We were on a mission to find hiking boots for The Husband. His current boots, which he wears almost daily, are wearing through the sole and he needs replacements. So we went down to Fair Lakes, where there is a good cheap shoe store and a sporting goods store and, supposedly, an outdoor specialty store.
BUT, also at Fair Lakes - Target, WalMart and Toys R Us. I decided that I was on no time schedule and that we were going on a Faramir hunt! :) I braced The Small Boy that there was very little hope that we were going to find *anything.* AND I emphasized that there was to be *no* whining. He started chanting "You get what you get and don't throw a fit!"
It went incredibly well! In WalMart (which had nothing before Christmas but Gollum), we found a fair selection of action figures for $5. The Small Boy wanted Eomer in armor. I really, really wanted a Borormir for me, but I thought, "That's so dumb. We don't need *three* Boromirs!" At WalMart I also found the perfect replacement for my breaking-down purse, for a mere $10. Yay!
We didn't find anything else great. Then we had terrible luck on the shoes and found nothing. And of course we didn't find Faramir. But the whole time I was thinking, "I really want a Borormir... He's only $5!"
So, when we were all done, I trotted back over to WalMart to get my toy. On the way out, I was hoping to get some fabric softener, so was looking around for it and saw - THE CHRISTMAS JUNK AISLE! Down which we found a small selection of action figures for $3! Go us! So we got a different Eomer, and Frodo in his orc armor. I was quite distressed that we could not find Sam in orc armor, so am planning a kamikaze run on the WalMart in Sterling early next week in conjunction with the grocery shopping.
Had hoped to find Merry and/or Pippin in their armor, but no dice. (If I'd found Merry, would have gotten two, to prevent fighting between the boys.) And no Faramir. But a very fun outing, in spite of that.
And now, Boromir can keep me company at work (and, yes, I'm insane, because I now want (Helm's Deep) Aragorn to keep him company... *snortle*)
Now, must find a good specialty hiking store for The Husband's boots.
