Party update

Last Sunday, we went to Ms. Robin's baby shower.
The Small Boy was perfect! They had a chessboard, so during the visiting and chatting and eating yummy treats part of the afternoon The Small Boy played chess, then played with the chess pieces. I was tickled that he seemed to draw the most attention from the men in the crowd. They wanted to know if he could play chess, then wanted to talk about him. I don't know if this says more about the particular men there, or if men just don't belong at baby showers and were incredibly bored.
During the present opening part of the party, we moved downstairs. They had decorated with streamers on the ceiling and blue and pink balloons all over the floor. The Small Boy launched into the balloons, kicking and tossing them and having a blast! As Robin had raked in the loot, The Small Boy's antics were a welcome distraction when the present opening got dull.
Yesterday, we went to the birthday party of one of The Small Boy's friends from school. It was a pool party at a nearby community center. After an hour of running around like nuts, playing party games, and eating cake in the center's party room, we went to the pool. The Small Boy had a blast! They have a very well-designed pool there, with a 2-3 foot section. The Small Boy didn't need to be able to swim to enjoy the water. He had the biggest grin on his face for the entire hour. When he got splashed he'd flinch a little, then burst out into giggles! We clearly need to join the community association this summer so that we can use the pools.
