Watson in the original stories
Jul. 14th, 2013 08:15 amI'm reading The Sign of Four and Watson says a couple of utterly ridiculous things when under stress.
1. When he's chatting with Mary in the carriage, trying to help HER stay calm, apparently, he's relating stories from Afghanistan and mentions shooting an animal that came into his tent "with a double-barreled tiger."
2. And later, when he's answering Thaddeus Sholto's incessant questions about his symptoms, but he's distracted thinking about the treasure, he tells the guy to take strychnine as a sedative. HIGH DOSES.
Um. I feel that Watson doesn't deal well with stress. Or are we supposed to think that, aside from actual medical questions Holmes asks him when he's focused, maybe Watson is a bit of an airhead?
